She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. Months later she came up with a technique that did not render the chosen object on canvas as an image that was flat. The image has been transformed to its own reproduction which is based an interpretation by the artist. This works best when dealing with living objects as well as items that have a shelf life such as fruits or people. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in the sense that it is amorphous, transparent. The only work of her art to survive is the photo. As the photographic and painting techniques are coordinated so closely and result in the trompe-l'oeil effect in which it appears as if three dimensions is only visible at certain places, for example the area around the eyes or hair. Meade occasionally integrates painted models into the environment around them. It allows them to interact with this world the artist has constructed. The result is a blurring of the lines between painting, photography and installation.
